The website New Liberty Standard was the first website to offer Bitcoin purchases. You were able to buy and sell Bitcoin through Paypal. The person who created the "exchange" basically priced Bitcoin at the average cost to mine Bitcoin.
This got me to thinking about the first time I heard of Bitcoin. I was in my first year at university, a friend mentioned it and I ended up buying some after exploring the dark web with a housemate. We made some purchases and were amazed it was actually for real. Unfortunately this was in 2011 so a couple of years after the above.
