About Satoshi's Identity - Unknown but Traceable with a High Degree of Certainty

First, a few disclaimers:

  • Satoshi's identity is not and shouldn't be an obsession, as it's irrelevant at this point in time.
  • Bitcoin is bigger than Satoshi - it was a gift to the world that he doesn't control. Unlike other projects with VC funding, marketing teams, and "charismatic leaders".
  • I'm not writing this post to analyze analyse his writing style nor speculate on his origins and background.
  • Satoshi's identity doesn't, wouldn't, and shouldn't impact my/your opinion about the revolutionary form of money we have the pleasure of using.
  • It's not Craig Wright.

Satoshi was extremely careful with protecting his identity. Even people who spoke with him on the forums and even worked on Bitcoin in the early days might not know who he was.

There is some great speculation and evidence pointing to a few individuals, but I'm also not interested in that either. It's an entertaining question to research for first-timers though. There is a YouTube series called "The Most Elusive Identity On The Internet" which can kick-start your voyage in the rabbit hole.

But to this day, there is no verifiable proof to who Satoshi is.

My Thesis

So, with all that being said, why am I making this post?

Basically, there is one thing we know for sure:

A person paid with a card to register the Bitcoin.org domain.

That means that there is a set of operations employees in two companies (namely, the domain registrar and the bank/card provider) that can unambiguously come to the identity of the buyer just by looking at the records.

I'm sure that if the government wants to reveal his identity, this is a route they would explore. However, knowing that his identity has nothing to do with the Bitcoin network nowadays, it might be irrelevant for them. This was a genius and one of the most benevolent moves in history. But still might be relevant in case someone wants to grant him a Nobel prize in 30 years.

Basically, I'm trying to understand why this isn't mentioned at all when people discuss or research Satoshi's real-world identity. It's the only technical link to a person that is or knows Satoshi.

Interested in your opinions and further input.

Cheers!
