Access to on chain data

I'm a dev getting my feet wet with WEB3 and have recently run into a surprising problem.

Programmatically getting any type of data from a blockchain (Particularly ETH blockchain) is easy. However, all the easy solutions involve using a 3rd party api which entirely obfuscates the decentralized nature of crypto. I've been looking for solutions on how to mine data directly from the blockchain and not a 3rd party api and have so far not found any. I feel like this should be easier.

Also, i may be missing something entirely since I am just getting started with all this.LMK your thoughts!
