After https://coursera.org/learn/cryptocurrency/, what's a good resource to learn about the current state of cryptocurrency sector/its development since 2015?

All Cryptocurrencies

I've just finished auditing the course at https://coursera.org/learn/cryptocurrency/. I'd recommend it to any beginners trying to understand bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general. I had a basic understanding going in but it was very illuminating.

The main problem with the course is it's from 2015! That means, for example, that they mention Ethereum, but only as an interesting idea that hasn't matured yet. They talk a lot about the possibilities of cryptocurrency, and give some toy examples of potential use cases.

What I really want to learn about now is how the cryptocurrency sector has developed since then. To be honest, I feel like there has not been as much progress as the initial course was implying. There are many more centralised exchanges now, the trading aspect of crypto as a currency seems much, much more developed. A huge amount of capital investment that has gone into building the infrastructure that allows trading between currencies and financial instruments and derivatives etc. However, these are mostly centralised, and are not using blockchain technology to "give technological solutions to problems currently solved by human institutions" (to paraphrase the course).

This is the promise of blockchain technology, I want to know more about use-cases in this area. There are things like Helium and Goldfinch, that seem fairly interesting but they're still at early stages it seems - however, 7 years have passed since that course was made, are there more things I should be aware of?

In terms of decentralised finance as a whole, are there interesting start-ups/more developed businesses in this area? Things like prediction markets for example, or peer to peer lending? Have these developed?

Things like NFTs are trying to create digital assets which may have some use in the metaverse, but it seems as if we're still at the early stages of making this all work as well, is there something more concrete in this area as well to look at? Beyond something like Bored Ape Yacht Club?

Overall I entered into the course as fairly sceptical about bitcoin, but I've recognised now what an interesting and true innovation it is. What I'm disappointed by is it seems we're still in the midst of working to find a genuine use-case for the technology. However that's just my impression and perhaps I'm wrong.

tl;dr What kind of resources are available so I can learn more about the development of the cryptocurrency/decentralised finance/blockchain technology sectors over the previous 7 years?
