Alex Partsev is a programmer and a professional in the field of information security living in the Netherlands. On August 12th, he was arrested for his contributions to the Tornado Cash source code. He has not even been charged of anything, FIOD claims that Alex is suspected of "involvement in concealing criminal financial flows and facilitating money laundering through the mixing of cryptocurrencies through the decentralized Ethereum mixing service Tornado Cash."
It's an outrage that we seem to have forgotten about this story so quick, when an attack like this is an attack on all open source code, an extension of free speech. If nothing is done, this sets a precedent that code can and will be used to incriminate developpers.
The cryptocurrency community once held strong beliefs when it comes to freedom, but today it seems all anyone cares about is making a quick gain with no interest in the underlying technology or values.
I believe this issue is very important and should be discussed much more than it is today.
You can sign the petition to release Alex here or simply spread awareness. If you live in the netherlands, you can contact your representatives and inform them that this is an issue you care about. It's the only way to get anything to happen
