Are we witnessing a Bitcoin war?

I was looking at Bitcoin sub and Bitcoin Twitter, the sides are clearly divided and its a warzone out there.

The story so far is that people are speculating on sat inscripted JPEGs and BRC-20 tokens,minting them on the bitcoing network thanks to ordinal system, which has led to network congestion and btc gas fee going through the moon.

The two sides at war are:

Ordinalists:These are the people who believe ordinals bring new and important usecase to BTC and they have a right to use the network as they desire.And also argue that this is real adoption.These include many people but also some startups who have introduced taproot wallets and marketplaces supporting ordinals,such as unisat and ordinalwallet etc.

Purists:These are the people who believe BTC's only purpose should be as a digital currency and store of value.Not for storing art and memecoins.This crowd mainly consists of bitcoin maxis but some other people fall in this category too.I saw two opinions floating among them,one is that this is just infinite stupidity causing problem and another much more conspiracy like idea that this is a deliberate attack on bitcoin network.

A war is going on between the two camps.Ordinalists are developing methods to smoothen the inscription process trying make it easier for mass adoption while purists are devising attacks such as ordinaldisrespector and ordinalslow to sabotage the whole ordinal system.

Only time will tell who comes on top.
