Avatars - the good, the bad, and the rest

By now you’ve probably seen that Gen 3 of Reddit Avatars dropped. Within about 30 seconds, it was malfunctioning - Reddit took the shop offline, apparently due to heavy hitting activity, that pretty much scooped up massive amounts of the avatars expected to flip for high prices (Rojom and Foust). It took hours for Reddit to update and then re-launch the shop. The most expensive avatars jumped in price from $99 last generation to $199-$249 this generation. The bad.

The good. There were still lots of cool avatars available, even some of the high end ones, for those who wanted to scoop some up when the store returned. There are still awesome, cheap ones available - in the $4.99-9.99 range. They’re not going to make any of us rich, but they are pretty darn fun to mash up.

Who knows what the final verdict on this drop will be - but hopefully Reddit will now realize they need more bot controls and a way smoother roll-out in the future. If you’re wanting to jump in for something cool as an avatar, you haven’t missed out yet. (just don’t go in expecting to get one that will make you bank to flip - those ones have probably mostly been snagged).
