IMO the most accurate definition of a cryptocurrency is digital currency, which is an alternative form of payment created using encryption algorithms.
Yes, the word crypto was not used in the whitepaper. But bitcoin is a cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is THE cryptocurrency, and the first successful one. In fact, cryptocurrency is subdivided into bitcoin and altcoins(shitcoins), because bitcoin IS different from all other crypto.
I think telling people that bitcoin is not crypto and hating on and downvoting anyone using the word 'crypto' just feels like gaslighting. It creates more confusion to anybody curious about bitcoin. Just because the crypto scene is riddled with scams and has negative connotations does not mean you can just claim bitcoin is not crypto. Instead, you can tell people that bitcoin is THE cryptocurrency and talk about how bitcoin is different from any other crypto.
I'm surprised because this seems to be an unpopular opinion around here.
