Bitcoin meet ups and personal security

Let me preface this with, I think that in person P2P bitcoin transfers are a great and vital part of Bitcoin and it's adoption. However, I think meet ups or gathering of people holding various amounts of Bitcoin open themselves up to bad actors and theft. If criminals heard about a meet up where people were exchanging cash, it would sound like an opportunity. Back in the day before bitcoin was as popular as it is now, these kinds of meet ups were fine. I think now, advertising such meet ups is inviting such situations. I know some countries are safer than others but gun violence is a very real threat in many places. I just want to put out this cautionary warning that opening yourself up to theft is dangerous, advertising even inadvertently, that you own the best preforming asset in the last decade, which could be taken from you over the brandishing of a weapon is a real threat. Do people who go to these meetups carry to protect themselves? How many of you are prepared in such a situation? How do you protect yourself in a very real threatening positions?
