This article updates a lot of the incorrect data floating around about bitcoin mining. The Cambridge data we’ve all been using has many flaws. Now that we have a more accurate reading of the energy mix, bitcoin mining looks even better.

Bitcoin mining is not primarily powered by coal based electricity. Apparently that’s not typical.

14% of the hash power comes from zero emmission off grid energy. That’s not in the Cambridge data at all.

There are 41 sustainable energy mining operations.

20% of global hashrate and 50% of US hashrate is in Texas on ERCOT. That’s good because Texas has a cleaner energy mix on the grid than the rest of the US.
