Bitconneccccccttt

Imagine all of the people that invested in bitconnect just bought btc instead. I know this can be said about a lot of things but to me it begs the question. How could so many people put so much money into something that was so obviously a scam? On top of that most of them didn't bother buying into any of the legit projects, because why do that when you could have more bitconnect? I know there was a lot of hype and people conflated bitconnect with crypto as a whole. I just find that whole chapter of crypto so fascinating. I know there have been other similar situations but this one particularly stands out to me.
