Can a Layer 2 address be treated as a regular ERC20 address?

Hey guys, might be a bit of a noob question here, but I'm not too familiar with layer 2 technology. Let's say I want to receive some ETH (say, from a contest), and I put my zksync address (a layer 2.0 scaling solution protocol) as my address instead my metamask Ethereum mainnet address. Would I be able to receive those funds on zksync, or do I need to transfer them there manually?

It seems that I can, cause to my knowledge layer 2 works the same way, but I just wanted to double-check with those who understand layer 2 more so I don't lose any funds trying to do this myself.

Thanks in advance!
