Can a platform be build for trading RPG game items, such that the platform don't require the game developer to be an active part of it?

This is my first post here, so go easy on me. : )

I play Diablo 2 - an RPG game with 20+ existence and community. The game (in short) involves digital characters fighting mobs and thus "farming" for in-game items which improve the character. As such trading items in the game has always big very big part of the game, however no marketplace was ever created by Activision-Blizzard.

So the community keep created various such platforms. Two examples are:

The problem is that, these platforms are bad:

  1. Super time-consuming since the UI/UX is terrible
  2. Requires trusting random people on the web or
  3. Limited to swapping goods in-game (though some items take the role of currency sometimes). Basically you agree on something offline and trust to do it online.

Question

Is there a way to improve this experience via something build on top of Ethereum? If so, can someone more knowledgable share their thoughts on how one might thing about tacking this problem?
