So I've been rather disappointed with the direction gaming has gone in the past decade. Micro-transactions and exploitative features are now commonplace in most games. Free-to-play often have exploitative business models and honestly offer completely crappy gameplay if you aren't willing to pay most of the time.
My question is can crypto gaming actually fix this? I like the play to own model idea in theory, but are these developers just going get dollar signs in their eyes when the next bull run emerges and start pumping out complete horse crap like we got last cycle.
Are we actually going to build games that are fun to play and don't have exploitative business models? Like if we just copy and paste traditional gaming and slap a blockchain on top that doesn't really feel like we are improving anything. We are still building business models that dump on consumers while maximizing profits for developers.
I know quite a few projects that talk big ideas about fixing this, but I guess we see if any actually have the moral integrity to follow through on this concept. I think it's a prisoner's dilemma though because once one projects starts pumping out half-baked horse crap and makes millions off of it, many others will follow suit to get a quick cash grab rather than building something of substance.
My only hope is that crypto gaming got crapped on so thoroughly last cycle, and deservedly so, that most consumers won't buy into the cash grabs this cycle. Well at least hoping anyway. Governments still seem unwillingly to pass any meaningful regulation on this front so I'm sure we will get a repeat of the half-baked cash grabs this cycle too.
