Can Ethereum based on technological aspects become as fast and cheap as other competitors?

I am not asking about price, and I am not criticising.

I just want to know if there is anything that Ethereum can do to become faster and cheaper in the long term?

That's all I need to know, to decide if it's a good investment.

It no doubt is spread out and secure as F, so the only missing factors are speed and transaction price.

If that is possible, it will eventually happen.

If that's not possible, competitors who do will eventually take over.
