Today a user in the Ethereum sub posted about being scammed by address poisoning. Scammers send dust (very small amounts of crypto) to get into your list of recent transactions with their own fake wallets. The scammer faked the victim's Coinbase deposit address: 0xAcd88288.....................................................8750150 <== Coinbase address 0xAcD871c0.....................................................Af60150 <== fake 0xACdC8550....................................................1450150 <== fake -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |edit: Some people asked how hard it is to generate these fake addresses. Well, not very. There are 'only' 168 possiblities for the 4 first and last digits (addresses are hexadecimal with 16 different digits). My GPU needs 3 seconds to guess them all. [link] [comments] |
