Checking the first and last few digits of your address is NOT enough.

Today a user in the Ethereum sub posted about being scammed by address poisoning. Scammers send dust (very small amounts of crypto) to get into your list of recent transactions with their own fake wallets.

The scammer faked the victim's Coinbase deposit address:

1. Never use addresses you see in your recent wallet transactions.
2. Always compare more than just the beginning and the end of an address.
3. There are 8x8-pixel images created from your address like blockchain explorers show them. Many wallets do this too. Very small changes lead to a completely different picture:

|edit: Some people asked how hard it is to generate these fake addresses. Well, not very. There are 'only' 16⁸ possiblities for the 4 first and last digits (addresses are hexadecimal with 16 different digits).
