Tried to move my staked ETH2 off Coinbase to cold storage, but doesn't show up as an option when sending. Poked around this sub and read people saying you won't be able to transfer until (1) the merge AND (2) some protocol upgrade. #1 is obviously complete; sounds like we're waiting for #2.
However, I reached out to Coinbase support on timing, and was told this by Support:
Me: Do you know when I will be able to send ETH2 without converting it?
Support: Unfortunately, that is the only way to send your ETH2. If you want to sell your ETH2 or send it to another wallet, wrapping it for the cbETH is your only option. cbETH is an ERC-20 token and can be sold or sent anytime.
Me: Are you saying I will NEVER be able to send my ETH2? Or are you saying that I can't send it until some future protocol is upgraded?
Support: I cannot promise that you will be able to send your ETH2 in the future. But this is a really interesting request, but unfortunately it's not something we currently offer. Most new features and improvements to Coinbase come directly from feedback like yours, so it's very valuable to us! While we can't offer any specific timeline for the addition of new features, we are constantly working to build products our customers will love. In the meantime, we've recorded your request so that it can be reviewed by the product manager when planning which features to build next.
Is this possible? That Ethereum might never be movable again without wrapping, or that Coinbase has no near-term plans to accommodate this? Or is my Coinbase Support talking shite?
