Funny how when it comes to important things I can never find a quantitative comparison.
We use 80,000 full-time employees and all the time spent filing just to move money to the government in the form of taxation. This opportunity cost is immense - Apple uses 160,000 employees to form the most valuable business on Earth, for example (of course engineers are more costly than IRS employees, but you get my point).
The creation of money is disgusting, but is it as costly as this? If we created the ability to add money with zero marginal cost of opportunity, why isn't there more effort to compare the cantillon effect that follows it with the alternative cost of taxation? These are real costs.
But hey I guess it all works better with me in the dark, right? ????
