I'm thinking about Russia, but this goes beyond that. Conceptually, does Blockchain have potential for better systems for elections? By verifiable I mean that voters and auditors can confirm the integrity of votes cast, and by free I mean still anonymous. Non-fungible ballots with verifiable but anonymous ownership, and transparent election results read out from a ledger? Key encryption?
Obviously there are more problems in the integrity of elections beyond the choice of digital infrastructure (oppressive regimes would not adopt a transparent system, for one). But if somehow a verifiable-integrity system could be proven, there may be pressure to adopt it. Like some international ISO standard or an election certification by The Carter Center.
