Could someone guess 12 words at random until they get lucky?

I've almost finished reading The Bitcoin Standard by Saifedean Ammous (a must-read, I recommend), and it got me thinking, what's to stop someone making some sort of code that guesses words at random until they gain access to some unfortunate persons defi wallet? Is this possible? I understand that there are hundreds of words, possibly even thousands, and they must be entered in the correct order, but couldn't someone force it with code?
