About a month ago at Art Basel, Polygon announced they had acquired a PSA 10 1st Edition Shadowless Charizard card and are auctioning it on Courtyard. For those who haven't heard of Courtyard, Courtyard is an RWA project. It is a pioneering platform that integrates blockchain technology with the world of physical collectibles, particularly focusing on trading cards like those from PokΓ©mon, sports, and other collectible categories. Courtyard allows users to tokenize their physical collectibles, mainly graded trading cards, into NFTs on Polygon. Users send their card to Courtyard. All physical items are stored in secure vaults provided by Brink's, ensuring that the collectibles are safe, insured, and can be redeemed at any time. Courtyard hosts a marketplace where users can buy, sell, or trade these tokenized collectibles. They also run auctions, including no-reserve auctions, where items like a PSA 10 Charizard card can be bid on. These auctions leverage the Polygon blockchain for transparency and efficiency. Polygon had initially acquired this card for $250,000. This is the most valuable Pokemon card - one sold for $369,000 back in 2020, and another for $420,000 in 2022. I may be wrong, but this may be the highest RWA auction for a collectible so far in web3. If this is a sign of things to come in 2025, there's a lot of liquidity that is out there!
