I took a stab at calculating how much it would cost to buy everything on earth. I arrived at around $1 quadrillion USD. These estimates are conservative as they don't include the notional amount of derivatives outstanding (just the MV) and they don't account for the inflation we've seen recently (most data from 2020 or 2021). The commodity estimate only accounts for the value mined/pumped/harvested across all commodities in a single year, plus gold and silver stocks (ignores all other inventories in the ground or in stocks). Crypto accounts for 0.2% of global asset values. It would only take 2% of the worthless fiat in the world (M2) to buy every digital asset today. I don't want to speculate on the pace of adoption, but I'm guessing that more than 0.2% of assets will be digitized in 20 years. I'll take those odds. Sometimes I forget how early we still are in this digital paradigm shift. Looking at it like this makes me think that we're only a few pitches into the first inning. [link] [comments] |
