We all know the difficulties of talking about crypto around friends and family and this post in itself is controversial. 99% of the time you'll be disregarded or mocked. It seems that nobody in this sub wants to tell anyone about crypto with good reason, but I think that we can all do our part when given the opportunity.
Step 0: Don't make any sudden moves.
Let it come naturally from conversation. Don't drive the conversation into crypto. Let them come to you. (Maybe don't try to convince your hard headed uncle)
Step 1: Don't be THAT guy
THAT guy is the person who talks about how crypto is our lord and savior, who only shows charts going up, who talks down to others and comes across condescending. These people IMO are no better than Buttcoiners and I'm not sure they even know what they purchased. Don't be that guy, educate and debate in a civil manner. Don't argue. Listen to their questions and concerns and suppress your ego.
Step 2: Stick to the basics (BTC)
State your case about BTC and the fundamentals. Keep it simple and explain why BTC is useful. Don't go into dapps, the interoperability of ATOM, or NFTs. Stop. You wouldn't jump to chapter 15 in learning Spanish if you can't speak Spanish.
Step 3: Respect peoples opinions.
I know this is a hard one, because nobody's opinion really matters. I've been incredibly lucky that anytime I've spoken to friends and family about crypto, they've always been interested to learn, listen, and ask questions. Any debate I've had with my friends/family start and end civilly because we respect each other. I let them voice their opinions before I let my ego talk. You have to accept that somebody simply trusts government more than blockchain.
Step 4: You don't need to talk about what you own. That has nothing to do with the conversation.
I'd love to hear if anyone has a good experience talking about crypto. It seems taboo to speak in public. I still believe word of mouth is incredibly powerful despite how much communication we have with technology. Remember why you invested in the first place when speaking and it'll help greatly.
Edit: If your family is blaming you for losing money on crypto, then they didn't learn anything
