Crypto has moved into territory I do not understand

Since L2s, DEXs, Meme coins etc have hit the market the industry has moved into a direction where I do not quite understand the value proposition for individual coins.

In particular, with L2s;

• I understand the need to develop scaling solutions to increase the efficiency and decrease costs of a blockchain

• I do not understand the underlying value propositions that make one L2 solution better than another

• It seems like every month or so we get a new L2 that promises scaling where they use for example, buzzwords like “optimistic rollups” I do not get why something like Optimism is better than say, Polygon or Solana. It has moved into a highly technical realm where you really have to understand the technology in order to understand it’s inherent value. But I’m not convinced that pure price action and hype define what coins will be good for the space or not. It seems almost random since there are a myriad of coins offering the same type of scaling solutions.

Memecoins:

• I get why some of these have blown up but I do not get why others do. The latest one I’ve seen blow up besides BALD and PEPE is HarryPotterObamaSonicInu10 with the ticker “BITCOIN”. Like wtf??? How does that even gain any traction? I don’t like that. It’s just pure nonsense.

• At least with Shiba I can understand it piggy backed off of Dogecoin’s success. And PEPE piggybacked off of the success of meme coins in general and is already an internationally recognised meme.

• But why something so ridiculous sounding as HarryPotter… blah blah blah. I wish people would stop putting money into this shit.

DEXs:

• I understand the need for DEXs and they are awesome. But most the projects are just rugpulls and stupid meme coins.

Summary:

• What happened to developing coins with actual use cases such as Chainlink, Filecoin or Monero?

• There is only so many coins that can enable better throughput on a blockchain.

• There is only so much money that is able to be funnelled into meme coins.

• There is only so many DEXs that can exist before it is simply redundant to make a new one.

• But time after time we get a new coin making the same old promises using new buzzwords to get people hyped. It has become hard to see which coins are truly unique and valuable.
