I consider myself to be technically savvy person at 39. I grew up with computers and the Internet. I started investing in crypto a year and a half ago and the one thing I know for sure is that I still don't know much of anything when it comes to crypto.
For the average person to feel comfortable with investing in crypto, they are going to want to feel safe in knowing that their money is secure. But as it stands now, it's easy to lose you're money to scams, or typing an address wrong. It's not like a bank where you can reach customer service and get help. Sure, exchanges may offer a little bit of help but if you hold in a wallet, it's all on you.
Then you have to keep up with different coins, different layers, bridges to switch coins etc. And the average person will feel uncomfortable and anxious while doing it. The reason I know this is because I felt that way even if I did figure it out in the end.
Bottom line is, crypto needs to continue to grow so it can be simplified so people will feel comfortable using it. Part of it is a generational thing of course, but still we have a ways to go.
