Deep-fakes are now good enough to be potentially destabilizing for society in general: NTFs could be an answer to that threat

All Cryptocurrencies

Deep fakes are now potentially indistinguishable from the real thing. In politics, their impact could really be potentially devastating (e.g.: somebody makes a very good one in which a head of state is announcing an imminent nuclear attack on another country).

It has been already suggested that NFTs could be a solution to the problem, but I think this needs to be debated more in our community, and in society at large. It could really help with the crypto cause and with the problem in itself.

Maybe all sensible institutions, governments included, should have their sensitive official videos deployed on a blockchain with NTF capability in order to validate them.

They should mint every video they produce or they are involved in, so that when doubts arise on the authenticity of a video in which said entity is depicted they could simply give proof of its presence or absence in the blockchain. Maybe an independent entity could be created to assure objectivity on the process and protect the public from possible manipulations.

I'm thinking at something similar to metadata on photos. Every video should have metadata that includes the NFT minting stamp.

I could also see news providers being obliged to mint somewhere every content they produce.

Thoughts?
