Diamond hands and paper hands are on a sliding scale: take care of your needs first

Lemme start with the disclaimer: I sold all my crypto to fiat the second week of May after HODLing since late 2017 for a profit of ~1600% (thanks primarily to getting into XLM at $0.04). I held for 3+ years and never waivered until now. I plan to get back into some crypto gambling in the future more extensively, but for now, I'm just scooping up Moons.

Times are different in 2021 than in 2017/2018. It's easier than ever to buy CC and with that comes a lot more eyes and opinions. Their is rampant FOMO, FUD, and just an insatiable level of guilt-tripping in the forms of "diamond hands" bragging and "paper hands" berating. This all existed 4 years ago, but not to the degree we see today.

But, what is diamond hands to me isn't necessarily what is diamond hands to you. I took my bag and ran because my first kid was born mid-May and I wanted more cash on hand to buy things he needs. I ignored all the calls for diamond hands to hold strong in that bull market because I had needs that were way, way more important than the opinion of a stranger on the internet. Ironically, I accidentally "timed the market" and sold within hours of it's peak, before the big crashes started.

And that's basically my point: some people calling for diamond hands might be 16 year old kids with family money that couldn't care less if they lost $100,000 on ICP. Some of you are folks making $25,000/yr busting your ass at a tough job and taking your bag worth $100,000 would be absolutely life-changing money. I'm not saying you can't HODL for another 10x increase, but I am saying, if you HODL, do it because it's right for your situation, not because you feel guilty about all the other folks holding bags. You've gotta do your best to set the guilt and FOMO aside.

Your paper hands are not comparable to another person's paper hands. Your diamond hands aren't comparable to another person's diamond hands. Do what you need to do to take care of yourself financially and do not get sucked into the diamond/paper hand memes.
