Difference between hashing and zero knowledge

Looking for an ELI5 type answer since I’m not very technical (or smart). Here’s how I understand it though:

Hashing is a way to take data, run it through some sort of complicated math problem, and produce a result. That result allows someone else to verify the validity of the original data without actually seeing the original data.

Zero knowledge proofs, as far as I can tell, do basically the same thing no? The process is different, something about the interrogator asking questions that the zk proof answers correctly with accuracy that only the holder of the original data could know without actually providing the original data, but doesn’t it essentially provide the same utility as hashing? What am I missing?
