Do yourself a favor and keep up with Bitcoin development and news

A big part of Bitcoin participation is awareness. As a protocol participant, as a node runner (PLEASE LEARN HOW TO RUN YOUR OWN NODE), in order to express your sovereignty and secure your Bitcoin activity you need to be aware of what's going on in the ecosystem.

One of the best ways to keep informed about Bitcoin proposals is the BIP list. Learning how to read and interpret these documents is critical to understanding how Bitcoin works. You don't need to know everything, the abstracts are very readable without foreknowledge. Consider them extensions of the whitepaper that provide actual specification. Keep in mind all BIPs aren't good. You decide what's good. Not all BIPs are implemented, in fact most are rejected. Learning how and why is also instructive.

Excellent sources of information are the dev mailing lists and repos themselves. There's the Bitcoin protocol development mailing list, there is the Core Bitcoin node dev list, there is the lightning dev list, and there are a few others as well for various implementations. There is also the Core repo itself. These are great sources of primary discussion between devs. I'd ask you consider reading and understanding, these are high signal to noise ratio spaces and not social media. The content appropriate there is not the same as the content appropriate here. Please keep contributions substantive.

Every Wednesday there is a new Optech Newsletter which attempts to summarize developer discussions on the mailing list. This is an excellent resource for those without the time or attention to parse the full mailing list.

Also on Wednesdays are the community Bitcoin PR review clubs. These are an excellent way to become versed in how Bitcoin core development works and get involved in either developing yourself, or grow your comprehension of what is going on in Bitcoin repositories.

If you aren't running a node, if you aren't ready to dive this deep, you can still start your dive at your own pace and make your way down using lists of community curated resources. There is one for lightning too.

There is no rush. There is no time limit. There is no end to learning. I've been at it for a decade and feel I've barely scratched the surface and with a constant motion of Bitcoin the learning will never end. Get involved with it, it's better than reading twitter and listening to influencers!
