Does a custodial service have to run tons of services for its wallets?

I am looking at lnd docs and it says that in an easy-mode I can have only one wallet which is online and running at a time.

If I decide to build a custodial wallet service like BlueWallet for my 50 clients, do I have to spin up and run 50 lnd instances, e.g. in separate docker instances?

This looks quite resource-heavy, especially if I have not 50, but thousands of clients.

Am I getting it wrong and there is a nice solution to be able to have thousands of lightning wallets at a time and still be on a relative budget?
