Bitpay used to work (just) but ever since they have implemented KYC its turned into a horrible company.
You go to checkout and you are presented with a page that says in order to pay you need create an account with us and give us all your personal information first.
They have taken the frictionless nature and ethos of bitcoin and lightning payments and have shoved themselves in between the consumer and the merchant in order to make people enter personal information before they are allowed to scan and pay.
This is just as bad if not worse than Chainalysis! Every time you pay Bitpay collect and store your personal information and tie it to your crypto addresses ready for government agencies to collect that data whenever they want.
I can forgive some random online merchant thinking they are being innovative for using bitpay, but any bitcoin company in this space that actually understands bitcoin but still uses bitpay for their ecommerce store has zero morals, does not care about your privacy and does not deserve your business.
If you see a bitcoin company using bitpay do yourself a favor and dont use them, find an alternative that has morals.
