Donald Trump has made himself heard again, repeating the same criticism of cryptocurrency with the rhetoric we have come to expect from him. While the former president calls crypto dangerous and praises the dollar to the skies, his wife Melania Trump is in the process of releasing an NFT. This digital work of art can only be obtained with... the cryptocurrency Solana! Great imagination Maria Bartiromo interviewed Trump for the Fox Business program and she also asked about his wife's NFT. Trump replied, 'She's going to do great. She has a great imagination.' He was then asked about what he really thinks about cryptocurrency. "I never liked it because I like the dollar," Trump replied. "I was never a big fan, but it keeps getting bigger and bigger and nobody does anything about it. I want our currency to be called the dollar." Crypto is dangerous He goes further and even thinks crypto can be dangerous: 'I don't want all these others, and that could one day be an explosion like we've never seen. It will make the big tech bubble look like something for babies. I think it's a very dangerous thing.' Familiar pattern In the summer of 2019, Trump tweeted for the first (and last) time about bitcoin and crypto, saying, 'I am not a fan of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, which are not money, and whose value is highly volatile and based on thin air. Unregulated crypto assets can facilitate unlawful behavior, including drug trafficking and other illegal activities. Anthony Scaramucci is a major investor on Wall Street, and has a reputation for being pro-bitcoin. He once held the position of White House communications director when Trump was president. Scaramucci said the tweet was likely made for Trump by advisers who believed he needed to take a stand on bitcoin and cryptocurrency. So Trump would not have written this himself, but that does not matter otherwise because he still defends this position during interviews. The tweet is no longer online because Trump's account has been closed. Last June, Trump was also a guest on Fox and then he told Stuart Varney that bitcoin looks like a scam. Melania's vision Melania Trump released her first NFT last week: digital art called Melania's Vision. It sold for 1 solana, which at the current SOL rate is 158 euros. She plans to sell more NFTs, the proceeds will be donated to a program to help children who are in the foster care system. [link] [comments] |
