Don't lose sight of what is important

Crypto finally got in the way of my personal life this morning. I have been working incredibly hard on crypto for the past 8 months or so. Trading, farming/staking, mining, etc. My dream is to work for myself and bring my revolutionary engineering invention to fruition. I have been working on it for a couple years and have some really good traction, but to meet my next milestone I need to give my full effort on it, which I can't do because money and bills exist. As such, I have been working hard to make my passive crypto income exceed that of my full-time job's income. I am getting close and I am super excited about it.

However, this morning (a Saturday), I was cuddling with my s.o. while laying in bed. She rolled away from me and I assumed she was going back to sleep. I usually wake up an hour or two before her, so I took the opportunity to check my phone for prices, mining status, liquidity pools, etc. She noticed I was on my phone checking crypto, got upset, got out of bed, grabbed her clothes, went into the bathroom to change (terrible sign fellas), and left the bedroom. By the time I got dressed and went downstairs, she had already left to take the dog for a walk.

I eventually caught up to her and gave her a big hug. She asked me why I thought she was upset, and I knew the answer. I was neglecting her for crypto. She knows about my dream to work for myself and knows that crypto is helping me get closer to that goal, but she was right. That was unacceptable of me to do. It is Saturday, the one day that I should be able to take a little slower and spend more time with people I love, especially in the morning while laying in bed with the love of my life. Instead of cuddling with her, kissing her, or having sex, I took the first chance I could get to check my crypto income. After all, I am still writing a reddit post and working on crypto right now, so it's not like she doesn't want me working on the weekends.

I have been working hard for years on my side businesses and inventions, but crypto is a whole different beast. With businesses or even investing in stocks, it is a lot easier to separate myself from the work. I need to be at a computer or working on a machine for my businesses. For stocks, I can only really work on them during trading hours. With crypto, there is no set time, there is no set place, and the infrastructure needed (my iPhone) to work on it is so simple that I can literally work from anywhere and at any time.

Take this as a simple lesson to stop looking at charts, mining, liquidity pools, NFTs, crypto games, and shit coins all the time. Take a break to just drop the kids off at the pool in peace or cook a burger on the grill. More importantly, don't neglect the people you care about. The people who are right in front of you and support you even when you are an obsessed crypto fiend like me.
