Due to Crypto, my younger brother is avoiding me like the plague. Be very careful when discussing Crypto with loved ones.

Back in April I was chatting to my younger brother about crypto and how I'd dipped my toe in.

He instantly became excited and wanted to give me a considerable amount of his money to invest. I told him it was a terrible idea, and that I'd probably end up losing my money and his. I'd also not want to invest his money in my name for Tax reasons.

From then on I totally downplayed the potential for profit and basically did my best to get across to him how high risk it was, especially with 2 young children, a huge mortgage, and an unstable job.

I was pretty sure I'd convinced him out of it.

We hadn't discussed it once since then and I hadn't given it another thought.

Turns out he didn't take my advice.....

We don't see each other that often as he lives about a 2 hour drive from me. That said, we'd usually chat once or twice a week and whatapp alot (mostly about upcoming UFC fights)

For the last couple of months, he has been very distant and we'd barely spoken, I just assumed he was busy and not that interested in UFC anymore.

Last weekend, due to Covid restrictions easing off, we all got together for a family BBQ to celebrate my mum's birthday.

I knew something was wrong the second he arrived, he was acting distant and his Wife was clearly pissed off with me.

I eventually got the opportunity to ask his wife what the problem was, she was reluctant to go into details, but basically said it was crypto related and that I was responsible.

Later on, my mother asked how their plans to convert their loft was going. They've been saving up for it for sometime as they need an extra room for their youngest child. His wife announced that the loft conversion was put on hold for at least for another year, then she glanced over at me....

I haven't confronted my brother about it, I'm not even sure if I should, but it's obvious he over invested and has lost alot of money.

I feel pretty shitty about it.

I guess the lesson to be taken from this is that should you ever choose to discuss crypto with loved ones, make sure you are mindful of the possibility that you're handing them the red pill.
