Whenever I try to explain to someone what blockchain is and what is it used for, not only I introduce them to Bitcoin and Ethereum, I always use examples of sending data in a very secure way at a fairly low price instead of going through the old process of sending a card via postmail.
In an era where everything needs to be instant and the demand for digitalization is increasing, some governments are finding their ways through blockchain, Egypt being one of them. They have managed to team up with CargoX, a small company which uses Ethereum and Polygon technology to send their Bill of Lading documents, making their whole maritime cargo business easier and way, way quicker. The Bill of Lading document, a.k.a B/L is a paper whis is sent from a carrier for aknowledging the arrival of cargo to a harbour, i.e an extremely important piece in the whole freight logistics puzzle. Until now, the B/L needed was sent via traditional mail or even via internet, but neither of those options were very reliable or trustwothy, as someone could hack or damage the document.
The electronic B/L has been mandatory in Egypt for all sea cargo duties since the 1st of October this year, so eB/L docs are expected to increase every week, making good use of our beloved Ethereum blockchain and our polygon mates. In case you are interested, You can check the daily docs in cargox.watch
To wrap it up, it is amazing to see blockchain usecases increase as years go by, not only DeFi or economics. As you could probably tell, IΒ΄m only a crypto enthusiast so my technical knowledge in both blockchain and sea freight industry is not extremely accurate.
