MOON is the official cryptocurrency of the r/Cryptocurrency subreddit. It is an ERC-20 token.

MOONs are awarded monthly after a snapshot which counts users' Karma generated on this subreddit is taken. Moon snapshots happen every 4 weeks on Wednesday.

A fixed amount of MOONs is divided to a variable amount of total Karma. The current (rough) karma to MOON awarded amount is ~0.35 MOON for each Karma.

Each distribution awards 2.5% less MOONs than the previous one.

MOONs are held in the Reddit Vault. Open one via the official mobile app. Remember to save your seed phrase and secure it with 2FA.

Only ~2.5% of r/Cryptocurrency users have a Vault.

MOONs have a theoretical max supply of 250m coins. Many of those went unclaimed by the users and are lost forever. The current circulating supply is ~70m.

MOONs can be sold/purchased via pancakeswap or moonsswap.

MOON governance/distribution is influenced by Proposals which users vote on. Those proposals take place in "Moon week", each month. Proposals first need to be posted in r/CryptoCurrencyMeta .

Proposals that have passed and are in effect:

• Users that have kept their MOONs in the Vault will receive a 20% bonus next distribution

• Comments generate double Karma

• There is a karma limit of 1k for each post/comment

• COMEDY or MEDIA posts will have their karma weight reduced to 10%, with a cap of 500 MOON

• Users who participate in Governance polls receive a 5% karma bonus the following round

• 15k Karma cap limits the maximum amount of karma per user each distribution

• Governance polls are promoted during Moon Week

• Distinguished posts or comments posted by a mod will be ineligible for distribution.

• Users can tip up to 100 MOON per month without loss of the 20% bonus mentioned earlier.
