Failed verification because of "edited selfie"???

I tried to complete this compulsory second verification and failed. The rationale for failure, as said in e mail from Binance, is that "edited pictures usually are not acceptable". But I didn't upload my photograph - I simply took a selfie with Binance app on my telephone. How might I "edit" it? They usually accepted it at first; only hours later I acquired this message about rejection.
