Everytime web3 gaming is mentioned on here there seem to be mostly negative responses. And this is understandable for those whose only exposure was during the 2021 play to earn frenzy. But the web3 gaming scene has grown and matured a lot since then, and is still continuing to grow. There is more to web3 gaming than gambling sites, pyramid schemes, and click-miners.

In fact, here are five, high quality, free to play, web3-enabled games that you can play this weekend / right now!

Gods Unchained - this one gets mentioned here often, so perhaps you have already heard of it. Gods Unchained is a MTG / Herathstone style, trading card game. With fantasy creatures and spells, players fight one on one duels. Gods Unchained is free to play, comes with introductory tutorials and starter decks to use. You can earn GODS token just by winning a few matches every day, and you can earn NFT card packs by playing and winning on the weekends. And this is all automatic. All you have to do is played Ranked matches. You don't ever even need to own any NFTs.

Champions Ascension - Officially in a 'pre-alpha' state, Champions Ascension is a fantasy-based, 3D open world with arena combat as the main attraction. Players can explore a small section of the city, paricipate in a number of mini-games including crab racing, drunk racing, and Dudo, a dice rolling and bluffing game. The arena offers 1v1 combat, with 3v3 and 10 person FFAs available on certain days. They just opened up their servers 24/7. And while you can use your generative Eteneral NFT as an in-game avatar, you can also play without owning any NFTs. At the moment, everyone has access to the same selection of heroes in the arena. Spider Tanks - 3v3 MOBA style game with customizable, tank-like vehicles. Earn SILK tokens by competing in ranked matches. If you don't own any Spider Tanks NFTs, you can pilot someone else's tank in a rental-style system, sharing what you earn with the tank owner.

Mojo Melee - fantasy auto-battler. Currently in beta season two. The game is free to play and everyone has access to a starting selection of units and spellstones. You can earn additional Mojos, Champions, and Spellstones through a battle pass system, purchase them through the in-game store, or buy NFTs to use in-game. They keep saying that they will have some sort of system where level 20 Champions can mint new NFTs, but we're still waiting on details for that.
