The Verizon app allows you to "lock" your number to help prevent porting of the number. Why this is an option and just not standard security is beyond me. However, if you use Verizon go into the my Verizon app and scroll down untill you see Number Lock. I am not sure how well it will actually prevent number porting, but the more security on your accounts the better!
