The current trend is green ????Some of you begin to have substantial gains already, especially if you bought during the bottom second half of July. For me gains a starting to be nice enough for some of my alts : But then, what?!? I realised that, as a noob in cryto, I don't really have an idea of what to do next.So I began to look for exit strategy, but to my surprise, there is not much interesting articles on the subject, and most of them are old (sure bud, I'll sell 10% of my BTC at $13k ????). So I decided to think about my own strategy, a global one for all my coins, as I owned up to 38 different ones ... So the idea is to get back my initial investment quickly enough, but without impeding future possible gains. I expect most of my coins to do at least a x2, most of them x3, and probably some will offer up to x4 returns, and as you can see on the screenshot above, Solana and FTM are already doing more than +100% return. A quick reminder, +100% is equivalent to x2 on your initial investment, you doubled your inital amount, so once the initial amount is deduced, you basically earn what you put in in the first place. So what to do now? Sell everything, and call this a succes? But when to sell? Is now the good time to sell? Or should I wait another week to get more gain? Or lose some, because who knows? I decided to go for this strategy for an initial investment of $100 for 100 coins:
So I decided this would be the time to sell around 50% of my initial investment. So I'm selling $50 worth of coins. Take note, it's not 50 coins, but 25 only, as their value doubled. I'm now left with 75 coins worth $150.
I've now taken back my initial investment, so from now on it's free gains ???? Plus I smoothed the market volatility by selling in two times. Had I sold for $100 during the first threshold, I would have been left with 50 coins only, now I've 76 of them!!!Of course, the market could have been down instead during this time. But then, I wouldn't have sold because I wouldn't have reached 150% gain. Or maybe if the dip was substantial enough, I could have bought back some coins with my first $50 gains ???? So you probably got it, is not really a DCA strategy, because I'm holding my sales if the coin goes down. I'm doing it only because I'm bullish and I think the market will globally goes up. But I still want some kind of insurance that I'll get my money back quickly enough.
So this is my own strategy, suitable for my own context : many alts, bought during the bottom. It's not really recommended if you bought BTC at $40k. But then maybe you can adapt it a little bit, changing the threshold values. For the moment I sold FTM and SOL at the first 100% threshold, I can't wait for the next one now ????It's always a little bit sad to let go some coins ????, especially the ones that gives you that much gain so quickly, but I think it's always a good idea to stick to the plan : no emotion, just maths and ????. If I made mistakes or if you have some suggestions, I'm open to discussion ???? Some edits : it's not a definitive exit. Cryptos are cyclic, nothing prevent me to get back later into the same crypto if it dips. And someone also suggested to swap alts for BTC instead of $, that's an interesting idea ????
