Gary also acknowledged the SEC's position that Ethereum is sufficiently decentralized that it is not a security (even if it might have been in its early days).

The stark contradiction with what he is claiming today is blatant. Presumably, while teaching at MIT, he had the freedom to perceive and teach things as they actually are, and now that he is under the thumb of politics, he must swoon to please the octogenarians running the U.S. government. We as a community should be constantly throwing this back in his face. He deserves it.
