Gen Alpha Loves Bitcoin

I work at a summer daycare watching kids aged 8 - 12. During activity time, one student noticed me checking the price of Bitcoin on CoinMarketCap and said, "Woah, you have $65,000?!" I explained to them that I didn't have it, but that was the current exchange rate of 1 Bitcoin.

That question attracted much more students to become interested in what I was doing. All of a sudden, I had half the class of 20 kids asking me questions about Bitcoin -- "What is Bitcoin? Who made Bitcoin? I can't buy a Bitcoin, it's too expensive! My dad says Bitcoin is a scam. How much Bitcoin can I get for $100? How much Bitcoin can I get for $1?" We even watched the Tuttle Twins episode on Bitcoin, and I was explaining to them the SHA-256 algorithm and how block validation works, and how new Bitcoins are minted, and what inflation is, and how Bitcoin protects your money from inflation. I explained how a lot of adults don't understand Bitcoin at all or just don't know about it.

Normally the kids all want to watch Mr. Beast and Mark Rober videos during YouTube time, but on this day, they were overwhelmingly interested in watching educational videos about Bitcoin.

I had one 12-year-old student who was extremely interested in Bitcoin, and he wanted to buy some himself, 45 minutes after learning about it. I told him that it used to be pretty easy for anyone to buy Bitcoin, but now it's hard unless you're over 18. I told him I would send him some if he has a cell phone, but unfortunately he didn't.

This all happened about 3 weeks ago. The daycare is split into one-week sessions, but many students come back for multiple sessions. The repeat students still talk about Bitcoin, ask about Bitcoin, ask what the price of Bitcoin is. And this interests the new students, too.

Overall, Gen Alpha had an exceedingly positive response to Bitcoin -- which makes sense! The technology is great, the arguments behind it are logical, and they are kids, so they are receptive to learning about new ideas!
