Satoshi started a Bitcoin client at 2009-01-03 19:15:05 GMT +1 and built the first block on top six days later on 2009-01-09.
Another two days later Hal Finney announced on Twitter he's "Running bitcoin" and joined an ever growing community of early miners.
The rest is history! Happy birthday, Bitcoin!
Edit: I've wrongly assumed the timestamp of block 0 was set by the starting time of the client that found block 1. This is not the case, as the timestamp for block 0 is hardcoded in the source code. Anyone could have mined block 1 on Jan 9th after the public release of the code on 8th of January. I'll get it right on the 15th birthday and it's good to see plebs not trusting but verifying :).
