A for-profit system doesn't get fixed by a new way to pay for the profit. I mean, the health care they do on the side.
For profit health care is innately wrong, stupid, murderous and expensive. The US pays twice per capita what the UK does, and has hugely worse outcomes in every way.
Even the name explains it - for profit health care. For profit comes first.
You know what brings profit? Big, showy interventions, surgeries etc, done when it's already too late, instead of just doing something there is no incentive for at all in for-profit care - preventative care. The cheapest and best way to minimize the care people need. Basically not happening, because that's not where the profit is.
In universal care nations, huge emphasis is put on this prevention. Plus, of course, in universal care nations care is provided to quickly get people healthy and productive again.
Hell, even the incentives in funding make more sense - the goal is "this specified, specific level of care and wait times, but as efficiently done as possible". The US? "Maximum profit at all cost, and oh yeah, help some people if you can, willya? But mostly profit."
