How come when you adjust margins mid-position nothing updates in terms of ROI or liquidation?

So I changed the margin of a position from 7x to 35x yesterday. At the time of changing my margin level, I was like -5%. My liquidation price never changed, my profit and loss changed but the PnL displayed $2 negative but -50% ROI on a $20 position. Now, fast forward to the next day, the position is now up 120%, which should be correct based on my calculations, but it is only showing a profit of $4 on the $20 position yet the ROI is at 120%. It should be noted that I changed margins while I was still in the red, so in other words I caught the full swing down, as I was in the red when I changed margins and now I am in the green. So my question is wtf is going on. I am certain that even though my position only showed -$2 (-52% after the leverage change) that if it got to -$4 (over -100%) then I would have been liquidated. So, now that I am up 120% but it is only showing a $4 profit, what is going on. If I close this position will I actually gain 120% ROI even though it only states a $4 profit? If not then what the hell is going on? There is something clearly glitched with UI changing leverages mid-position, or if not then something completely unintuitive and sketchy-seeming seems to be going on. Either that or changing leverage mid-position does absolutely nothing, which makes zero sense, changing only the ROI % number and not the actual value of the position. It is showing me profits as though I was still on 7x leverage, even though I changed from 7x to 35x while I was still in the red, and am now in the green.

What gives? I am hoping that if I close this position it will return what it is supposed to, considering that I am certain if it were the other way around I would have already been liquidated... (-120% vs 120%). Can somebody explain this?
