How to mine BTC with PC in 2024 for fun?

Several years ago, I mined a small amount of BTC on my laptop, but I eventually stopped because I needed my laptop for work. Later, the price of BTC rose significantly. Fortunately, I had saved a note about my wallet's blockchain in my KeePass. Using this information, I was able to transfer that BTC from my blockchain wallet to my hardware wallet! The process was both enjoyable and enlightening. I learned that mining on a laptop is not efficient and that it's better to buy BTC directly with cash, which I did. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made!

Looking ahead to today, I'm interested in mining BTC on my PC just for fun. I know the cost of electricity may outweigh what I can earn, but I simply want to revisit the experience. I recall having to install mining software, sync data with the internet, and then run another software to mine BTC. However, I'm unsure about how the mined funds appeared in my blockchain wallet.

I've tried searching Google for guides on how to do this, but I couldn't find any recent articles. Could you please advise if mining BTC for fun can be done with PC today? Could you share ( or DM me) any helpful links or articles to guide me on the setup and put in the right direction?

To clarify, my goal isn't to make money; I simply want to reminisce and occupy my time while continuing to buy BTC. Thank you!

PS: I am looking to learn how I can do this on Linux( Ubuntu). I don't use Windows. This might be easy for new generation but I am old and my mind is not as sharp as it used to be. Your help to recover my memory is greatly appreciated!
