How to retire off btc when..

I’m looking to retire off of my btc

All the maxi’s tell you never to sell btc - which is understandable because you can always just borrow against it. But the maxi’s also distrust the banks/lenders to hold your btc for collateral because of obvious reasons like losing control of your coins but if the goal is not to sell and you don’t put it up as collateral for a loan, how are you supposed to live off of btc without selling

Is the only option to wait for more lenders who are willing to do multi sig?
