How to take advantage if ETH forks - It's Forkin' time!

All Cryptocurrencies

It's looking more and more likely that a reasonably well funded group of miners is going to attempt to fork ETH on the day of the merge as ETH ends it's PoW chain.

For those of you who don't know, this means that anyone holding ETH at the time of the fork will now own OG ETH and MINER ETH on two separate, completely incompatible chains.

You don't need to do anything to "receive" this MINER ETH and nobody can tell you how much it will be worth. BCH price was incredibly volatile around the fork because liquidity was low and prices swung from initial $500 down to $200 and up to around $900 in a relatively short time frame.

I was around when BCH forked from BTC, it was a much bigger deal than the potential ETH split but I think there is still money to be made from a quick "in and out" to obtain as much forked ETH as possible to dump or do whatever the fuck you want with.

Most exchanges will inform users a head of time whether or not they will support the newly forked coin and at which block they will perform a snapshot of all user accounts (Just like an airdrop - this is how most handled it during the BCH BTC fork).

This means that, a well timed trade into ETH for a single block period can yield you maximum MinerETH with minimum risk to the price appreciation of the assets you wish to trade back into.

Trade is simple: Find an exchange that WILL support the forked coin. Move everything you are comfortable with to that exchange, wait for the snapshot block to approach, immediately swap every coin you have into ETH ahead of that block, wait for the next block, then immediately "undo" all those trades back into your chosen cryptocurrencies.

I did this successfully during the BCH/BTC fork and given the prices BCH was trading at initially it was an incredibly profitable trade. I don't expect the forked ETH to trade at 20%+ of ETH but 10% seems realistic at least temporarily - I expect in the longterm it'll go to 0.

I increased my BTC stack by nearly 25% after dumping BCH for BTC and this short trade.

Risks: Exchange custody is always a risk, tax liabilities, price appreciation of your chosen assets if ETH absolutely tanks.
