 | Yesterday, u/prototype__ posted about Choise (CHO) as a continuation of the $58m Crypterium scam. I hadn't heard about this so I took a quick break from sobbing at my investments to look. In the original post, prototype__ mentions that the company claims to be in Estonia but the only address on their website is a hot-desk office in the UK. I am in Estonia (and yes, I'm aware that this account is not anon) and I thought that sounded odd, so I do a quick search and find that Crypterium is listed as an Estonian company and has an address in Tallinn. An address that I recognize, because it is the address of my fave Chinese restaurant. So what the hell, I figure I'll pop by. The address given is A. Lauteri 5, which is in the heart of Tallinn. Ants Lauter was an Estonian actor who died in Tallinn. Google Maps actually claims that Crypterium is at A. Lauteri 8, which is across the street. There are two reviews for Crypterium, both of which say scam!, so I'm suspecting this is a deliberately wrong address to put off any mad crypto types with firearms experience. The registry confirms that the company is registered at Lauteri 5 and says they have a total of 3 employees who earn an average salary of 780€/month, which seems pretty mean. You couldn't live in Tallinn off that. There's more information there but I didn't want to deprive you all of a chance of Internet research. This is Hans. If you end up this way and want a good meal, try the dumplings. But the next door down is also marked as #5. This is clearly a collection of offices and hosts everything from English-speaking solicitors to the Brazilian embassy. There's no sign of Crypterium on the entrance. That seems a bit boring for a Reddit report. So I look around wondering if there's security cameras tracking me and then I walk in. There's a row of post boxes in the entry way. A letter up top catches my eye because it says it is from the Brussels police and is to one of the names on a post box, so why not just drop it in the right box? But there's nothing anywhere about Crypterium. This is disappointing. I mean, I'm not planning on confronting anyone or anything ("Hi, I am from r/Cryptocurrency and I wanted to talk to you about CHO") but I thought I'd at least to get a photograph of a sign or something, I don't know. Or a post office box but no sign, as a sort of smoking gun. Something. I keep going. There's a sign in the lobby to show what floor every business is on and HEY LOOK! There's Crypterium. So, I go dashing up and sure enough, there's a sign next to a weird white hallway that seems to have been rapidly built out of plywood. Crypterium is always written in italics. It's a thing. I go through the double doors and directly on the left is a white wooden door marked Crypterium. I look at it. It's a door. So, um. That's it. I guess I'm done. But there's one thing that's niggling me. The entry way sign says Crypterium and Skybutch but there's no Skybutch up here. And that letter, that letter in the entryway from the police. It says Skybutch, right? The one that for some reason isn't in the letter box. I go back to the entrance and loiter for a moment. Once it is quiet, I look all around me, pick up the police letter and head back to the 5th floor and knock on Crypterium's door. I hear footsteps pounding. This area is definitely all put together with plywood and duct tape. I don't dare take a photo. ("Surprise! You're on candid camera!") A 30-something guy with a thick brown beard opens the door and blinks at me blearily. "Hi," I say. "I found this on the floor and I think it might be yours." "Wha-?" To his credit, he switches straight to English. "What is it?" He peers at the envelope without taking it from me and says "I don't know who that is." "Oh, I thought it was yours, because the sign said Crypterium and Skybutch." I'm smiling like a maniac and trying to get a peek into the office. "It's just it was lying on the floor by the entryway." I swear to god, he steps out and looks at his own door, which says Crypterium and nothing else. "Where does it say that?" "No, not there," I say. "Downstairs. At the entrance. It says Crypterium and Skybutch. Big sign on the elevator. I thought you were one company." The office is all white and very long and narrow office. There's a desk near the door with a computer screen showing something in blue. All along the near wall is a long bench desk with stools. I lean further but I can't see anyone else, maybe a laptop at the far end of the bench desk. "No, that's not us. I've never heard of them." He gives me a funny look and steps back, blocking my view. Luckily, everyone here thinks Americans are borderline psychotic anyway, so I just keep smiling. "OK, I'll just take this and see if I can find them. I'm sure they are here somewhere." I look further down the hallway hopefully. He snatches the envelope from my hand. "That's fine, I'll take it." "Thanks!" He closes the door on my face and I hightail it out of there. And that's that! They definitely are at that address and apparently they are not Skybutch. OK, not a lot and I reckon corporate spy is not going to be a valid career choice for me.
