I sold btc to pay debt

I had a debt of a couple thousand and was slowly paying this of while accumulating btc every month knowing it would go up and I could clear the debt plus have.profit. I had stacked close to £5k when I was heavily urged by a financial advisor to sell it and put it toward the get. With the mindset You can't build wealth while paying back debt. Currently that £5k would be £13-15 and I'd be debt free plus profit. Instead after much resisting I sold and still have £500 of debt to go.

Even though the timing is bad, What's the general thought on not stacking while in debt. Even though it didn't pan out in my favour it's going up for ever so I'm restarting stacking although I'm paying a lot more for what I had

Was this the right move at the wrong time?
